Toronto children who walk to school are twice as likely to achieve  recommended levels of physical activity in comparison to children who were  driven to school. Of children living 1-2 km from their school &#8211; only 28% walk to  school.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is Walking  Wednesday?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Walking Wednesday is a fun,  spirited, and important way to promote an active healthy lifestyle for our  children. At Allenby, Walking Wednesday is held on the first Wednesday of every  month. Students are encouraged to walk to school, and upon arrival tell their  room number to a tally volunteer (look for the students in vests with  clipboards). The classroom with the largest number of walkers will win the  coveted Stinky Shoe Award for the month!
