We Day is a stadium full of young people who want to make a difference. People who believe that one person can start a global fundraiser or inspire global awareness. I was lucky enough to attend We Day expecting to see superstars sing or sit and watch half interesting speeches. What happened to me was something completely different. Something better. Something more moving than I have the words to explain. I came out inspired, empowered, and moved in an incredible way to truly make a difference. I came out wanting to be the one to help make that difference. I came out with a dream, a dream to change the world, a dream to end poverty and the horrible reality of child labour. Of course, everyone has this dream, don’t they? Doesn’t everyone want to fix the world? They should! No one should be saying to themselves “I can’t do anything, I’m just one person.” The words that go through those people’s heads are “impossible”, “never”, “too hard” and “powerless”. But after going to We Day, those words are now replaced by great and magical words like “possible.” “I can” “I’m not alone.” and “We are powerful.” In the stadium that day one of the speakers said “Look around, see those thousands of faces? All of those faces are with you, all of those faces want to make a difference in the world!” “We Day is not just a day, it’s a movement.” This was without doubt the most incredible day of my life. A day that has changed me forever.

– Taylor Clapham

We Day 2011 will be broadcast on Much Music Sunday October 30th at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday September 27th, a group of 11 Grade 6 students went with Mrs. Segal, Mrs. Ucar and Paula Riczker to the Air Canada Centre for We Day 2011.
