The Traffic and Safety team would like to update parents on the efforts\u00a0being made regarding traffic calming measures on Castlefield between Avenue Road and Castlewood.<\/div>\n

After much success the city has announced that the reduced speed limit on local roads\u00a0within Eglinton-Lawrence has been approved\u00a0as part of the Vision Zero Road Safely Plan Speed Management Strategy at the May Community Council meeting. More to come on dates of when the changes will be rolled out. This will affect Castlefield in particular as it’s one of the only streets surrounding Allenby that has a speed limit of 40km\/hr, whereas the remaining streets are all currently at 30km\/hr.<\/div>\n

In addition\u00a0 to the speed limit changes, the\u00a0APA’s efforts to have\u00a0speedbumps installed on Castlefield between Ave. Road and Castlewood is being presented at the North York Community Council meeting on\u00a0June 28th, 2022<\/strong>. We are waiting for the report and meeting agenda to be released, but in the interim, we wanted to bring this meeting to your attention in case you want to provide either a written or oral submission in support of the initiative. \nThe more supportive voices we have in favour of this important safety initiative, the better, with the critical voices coming from residents of this stretch of Castlefield.\u00a0 So we encourage you to participate, ideally with a written or in-person submission, and to rally your neighbours to do the same.<\/div>\n

Lastly, it’s Spring and many of our kids are playing outside. We would like to continue to remind drivers in our community to SLOW DOWN. We are working with the city to acquire\u00a0“slow down” signs that can be displayed on your lawns. The more signs that line our streets, the bigger message we are sending\u00a0 to drivers and making them aware that KIDS ARE AT PLAY. If you are interested in having a sign on your lawn, please email Kate McNeill-Keller (kmcneill@mccarthy.ca<\/a>) and\/or Lesley Cogan (lesley@cogan.ca<\/a>) with your name and address and we will deliver and install your sign.<\/div>\n
