First, I would like to share that there has been a change in one of our PART Representatives. Lisa Spiegel, a parent with two children (grades 1 and 4) in French Immersion will take Stuart Baltman’s place. Lisa served on the Executive Committee as both Director of School Programs and as Co-Director of Community Awareness and was instrumental in getting the PART initiative started last year. This substitution has been approved by both Jennie Ucar and the PART facilitators.<\/div>\n

Next Wednesday, March 27th is the March APA meeting<\/strong> from 7-9 pm. \u00a0The agenda<\/a> is posted on our website as are the minutes from the February meeting<\/a>.\u00a0Please make every effort to attend this meeting. As you all know, Allenby is involved in a PART process with 4 other schools in our Ward (John Ross Robertson, John Wanless, North Prep and Armour Heights) to find space to house Full-Day Kindergarten in 2014. Our FDK\/Space committee has been working to research and develop scenarios that work best for our school. The beginnings of these scenarios were shared at the February meeting and parents were encouraged to ask questions and give feedback.<\/div>\n

Next Wednesday the PART process will go a step further. Scenarios have been further refined and now need to be shared with parents to determine which is preferred by you so that our school is represented accurately. This meeting is a working session to get to these preferred scenarios. These same scenarios will then be shared by our PART representatives with the other schools participating in the process on April 2. The other schools will share their preferred scenarios as well and so begins the task of developing a solution that works for all of the schools involved.<\/div>\n

I can not emphasize the importance of this meeting enough. This is the time to get the information you need and voice your preferred option. Due to obvious time constraints at the meeting as well as the sheer volume of information that needs to be shared, we will be unable to spend too much time catching people up on past discussions. I strongly suggest going to the\u00a0APA website<\/a> where there is a page at the top right called “FDK<\/a>.” This section is full of FDK data and information about the PART process.\u00a0Don’t have too much time? \u00a0Try starting with the APA minutes from our February meeting<\/a>.<\/div>\n

At this point, no decisions made about how Allenby will accommodate FDK<\/strong>. This is a consultative process and we want to make sure that we get input from our Allenby parents before making any recommendations about whats best for Allenby.\u00a0 Please come to the meeting so that you can understand the options and your voice can be heard.<\/p>\n

To help you better understand the urgency for decision making, here is a timeline of the PART meeting schedule:<\/div>\n

  1. Public Meeting #1 – March 20th<\/strong>: The first Public meeting has been changed from March 21 to March 20th.\u00a0An invitation<\/a>\u00a0was sent home in your child’s backpack. The meeting will focus on sharing key information about the challenges and opportunities facing these schools as they prepare to implement Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) in September 2014. Communities from the five schools will be together and there will be time for questions from the audience.<\/li>\n
  2. APA Meeting – March 27th<\/strong>: At the APA meeting next Wednesday March 27th, there will be further in-depth\u00a0discussion about the best possible ways for Allenby to\u00a0accommodate\u00a0FDK. It is our plan to present specific scenarios to the parents to understand the position that the Allenby PART Representatives should support\u00a0at the next PART meeting on April 2. This will be a very important meeting and we urge you to come to this meeting.<\/li>\n
  3. PART meeting – April 2<\/strong>: Potential workable solutions presented from each school by their PART representatives.\u00a0 Impace of those potential workable solutions on the other Ward 8 schools to be discussed.\u00a0 The results of the discussion at this meeting will be shared at the Public Meeting on April 16th.<\/li>\n
  4. Public Meeting #2 – April 16th<\/strong>:\u00a0The second Public meeting will be held on April 16th. This will be a working meeting where each school will meet in a separate room to discuss possible options, workable solutions and impacts of the implementation of FDK in their school.<\/li>\n
  5. PART meeting – April 30th<\/strong>: Final recommendations discussed by the PART.\u00a0 To be written up and discussed at the final Pubilc Meeting May 15th.<\/li>\n
  6. Public Meeting #3 – May 15<\/strong>: At this final meeting, the PART committee will present its findings, in preparation for the report that will go to the Board of Trustees. There will be time for questions and comments from the audience.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
