The APA is excited to announce that\u00a0Dr. Alex Russell<\/a>\u00a0will be leading off our Speaker Series for 2017\/2018.<\/p>\n

Last year, the APA hosted a successful and intimate discussion about stress and anxiety in our children and it is our hope that noteworthy psychologist, and author of Drop the Worry Ball, Dr. Alex Russell will further our learning on this topic as he speaks about “Raising Resilient Children”. Dr. Russell will\u00a0offer a perspective that aims to help parents take a positive and emotionally rewarding role in their children\u2019s lives, while allowing them to have the opportunity to make their own decisions (and mistakes) while they are growing up. He will\u00a0address the common challenges that parents face, including dealing with troublesome behaviours, supporting children at school, and controlling or monitoring children\u2019s access to computers, cell phones and other forms of digital technology.<\/p>\n

Dr. Alex Russell<\/a>\u00a0is a clinical psychologist who helps children develop resilience and their own personal relationship with school and achievement. The heart of his message and his book,\u00a0Drop the Worry Ball,\u00a0is that children learn by experiencing non-catastrophic, painful failure, and it is through the process of these failures that they mature into resilient, resourceful and emotionally balanced individuals.<\/p>\n

Be sure to put this one in your calendar as it’s an excellent opportunity to hear an expert talk about appropriate levels of anxiety and believing in the capacity of our children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Cost: <\/strong>Childcare and Speaker Series are funded for Allenby families by the APA and the Ministry of Education Parents Reaching Out Grant<\/p>\n

*Note that seating is limited and will be offered in order of RSVP. Depending on demand, the APA will consider inviting other schools in our Ward to attend starting on October 23rd.<\/p>\n
