BOOK FAIR WAS A SUCCESS!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thank you for supporting the Allenby English and French Book Fairs this fall. We had many families visiting after school sharing their love of reading! A double thank you to the seven parents who spent hours setting-up, re-stocking, selling, and organizing the books and our customers. We are so grateful you donated your time.<\/p>\n

VOLUNTEERING IN THE LIBRARY LEARNING COMMONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are a parent who is interested in donating your time to the LLC on a regular basis, we have a few very busy days (days 2,3, and 4) and could use extra hands to manage the flow of books, resources, and people. If you have questions about the role of a library volunteer or would like to sign-up, please email me<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ALL WEATHER PLAY AND OUTDOOR LEARNING<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of my positions at Allenby is as a lead teacher for Eco School and Outdoor Education. This week I visited each class to discuss how we are playing and learning outside.<\/p>\n

Allenby students have done the math and realized that one hour is the minimum time we spend outside each day. If classes are lucky enough to have an outdoor education period, that time doubles! Please work as a family to dress in layers, bring a water- and windproof outer layer and weather appropriate footwear. When looking out the window and checking the weather in the morning, please keep this Norwegian proverb in mind, “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”<\/p>\n

ECOSCHOOLS CHALLENGE: A PLANT FOR EVERY CLASSROOM<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the third year of our Plant in Every Classroom Challenge<\/strong>. This annual effort has transformed our school and our classrooms. I’m sure many of you noticed that many of our learning\u00a0spaces already feature a number of plants. This year each class will receive\u00a0a baby Spider Plant<\/strong> a.k.a.\u00a0 “Chlorophytum comosum<\/a>” and a baby Mother of Millions <\/strong>a.k.a. “Bryophyllum daigremontianum<\/a>”\u00a0and track the growth through the year. Classes will be able to compare and share their challenges and successes. Please email me<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n

If you have any plants that can be split and shared, please share with your child’s classroom teacher or bring donations to the LLC (Library Learning Commons). Small trees and large plants are welcome and can be housed in our Atrium for the winter. We are also accepting pots, potting soil, watering cans, and related indoor gardening items.<\/p>\n

WORM BIN REFRESH<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thank you to every Vermicompost Foster Family! We hope you enjoyed your time with the worms, but it is time to say goodbye. Please return the bin to last year’s teacher. If last year’s teacher is no longer at Allenby, please deliver it to me in the LLC. We will be sorting through the castings next week and creating fresh habitats for our Red Wigglers. In preparation, we are accepting egg cartons, newspapers, washed and dried egg shells, and any size Rubbermaid\u00a0(or comparable dark plastic bin) with a lid. Please deliver donations to the LLC.<\/p>\n
