A note on allergies<\/strong>:<\/p>\n Halloween is a fun and exciting time to dress up in fun or scary costumes, carve pumpkins, do the Allenby Scavenger Hunt\u2026and then, of course, go trick-or-treating!<\/p>\n It is also typically a time to indulge in yummy treats and when rules about sugar consumption go out the door. But not all treats are safe for all children. Some treats are dangerous and even deadly.<\/p>\n This Halloween is a perfect time for our community to brush up on allergy awareness.<\/p>\n Here are some for keeping everyone in our community healthy and safe this Halloween:<\/p>\n Ask classmates if they have any allergies so you can be informed (Better to be safe than sorry)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Be mindful of packing or distributing products that contain some of the top allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, milk, egg<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Look for products that are labeled \u201cfree from allergens\u201d, \u201callergy free\u201d (suggested brands: Made good, Freeyum, Allergy smart, Enjoy life, YumEarth)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Be aware of products that say \u201cMay contain.\u201d Look for products that say \u201cfree\u201d or \u201cmade in a facility that doesn\u2019t manufacture nuts\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Paint a pumpkin Teal! Join Food allergy Canada by setting out a Teal pumpkin\/Teal pumpkin picture. This lets families know you are ONLY giving out allergy safe treats.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Consider these safe alternatives (that will also save you a visit to the dentist): pencils, erasers, stickers, playdoh, colouring sheets, stamps\/buttons, crayons etc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
