May APA Meeting

The next APA meeting is Wednesday, May 25th from 7-9 pm in the Library. As usual, childcare is provided.

Linked is the agenda for the meeting.

Please note that in the April meeting the Technology committee did a comprehensive presentation on future technology expenditures. Several motions were put on the table for a vote at the May meeting. This means that they will be voted on by the parents at this next meeting. Please take the time to read the motions below and the details of the plan in the April minutes on the APA website.

The other item of interest to many is that our Principal, Jennie Ucar, will be asking for feedback on the “Math Day” that took place on May 4th. Should you have productive feedback or questions that you would like to voice, this would be the opportunity to do so. Hope to see you there!

Technology Request in a Nutshell

Stephen Dawang presented a short to medium term plan for technology at Allenby. This plan was devised by Mr. Hussain in consultation with the teaching staff. In a meeting with Trustee Howard Goodman, Stephen was advised that technology in schools would likely look very different 4 – 7 years from now. Howard expected that each child from Grade 4 up would have access to a mobile device. Stephen is keen that we start the process of introducing these devices now to those teachers ready and willing to use them so that Allenby is ready when the TDSB introduces them in 4-7 years, instead of still catching up.

The technology committee made a request for the following funds:

  • Up to $17,600 for 4 smart boards each with their own laptop
  • Up to $4,400 for 1 rover portable smart board with laptop
  • Up to $4,800 for 8 laptops
  • Up to $4,000 for 4 Macbooks
  • Up to $7,500 for 15 Netbooks
  • Up to $1,000 for 2 tablets

This is a total of $39,300 to be spent this year. $15,325 has already been earmarked for technology spending. Therefore the committee is asking for a further $23,975.
