Happy New Year to all of our Allenby families. Unfortunately, the first days of school in the new year have been a challenge with the fencing going up late, without the added gate permitting access to St. Clements, as well as the frigid cold and tree damage from the ice storm. Our caretaking staff have worked diligently to remove much of the ice on the walkways and stairs. We have opened up the fencing as a temporary measure until the new access gate is installed. All students and community members are asked not to remove or adjust the fencing as it will be a necessary safety measure to keep our kids safe once the heavy equipment arrives (there has been a delay in the construction due to the ice storm). Students who normally are dismissed on the north side of the school (St. Clements) will continue to be dismissed on the north side at this time. The exit door from the “new wing” is currently frozen shut and we hope that this will be corrected by the end of the week.
The students have remained indoors today due to the extreme cold weather. We will continue monitoring the weather for the remainder of the week to determine if it is safe for students to be outside for recess. Please ensure that students come to school appropriately dressed for outdoor play as we do try to permit students to go outside when the weather permits, even if for short breaks, to get some physical activity and exposure to sunshine.
