Schoolyard Update

Congratulations Allenby families, community and students! As of this week, we have raised over $78,000 towards the Schoolyard campaign. This includes $12,853.65 raised by the students for the Dance Hard for Our Schoolyard Dance-a-thon. Thanks to the Magen Boys for donating their services for this great event.

We would like to share some special moments in our fundraising campaign to date:

  • The note above was given to us by a student who was concerned that the sticker on our sign had not moved in a week, so he gave his hard saved money from his piggy bank because “a little goes a long way” – thank you Tyler!
  • The gentleman who came into the office asking about the sign about the schoolyard. An Allenby alumnus from the 1940s who has many fond memories of his times at Allenby and gave a donation to help his former school.

Thank you to all who have donated and supported the campaign to date. We could have not gotten this far without you! Remember, you can still donate to the campaign by filling out a donor card or going to the CanadaHelps and donating online. Remember, all donations receive a tax receipt.

We hope that the fundraising momentum continues into the new year with Soiree for the Schoolyard on Thursday, January 29! It is going to be a great event with some amazing things up for auction that are out of this world. Order your tickets early and get ready to have fun!

Next steps? We will be meeting with the TDSB on Friday, December 19 to review detailed designs that will be used in the tender documents to be sent out in January. As mentioned previously, we were informed in late October that the estimated costs of the work to be completed in Phase 1 were going to be higher than originally given to the APA in August. This means that our fundraising goal will have to reach beyond $100,000. We are still awaiting some answers from TDSB regarding what the new estimated increased cost will be (specifically for track resurfacing). As soon as we have more detailed information it will be shared with the parents through the AllenBeat. If needed, a special APA meeting will be held in January to update the parent body.
