Traffic Safety Reminder

With the snow, come more cars driving to and from the school. Now more than ever it is important to obey the parking signs around the school.

There is no parking or stopping from 8:00AM – 4:00PM in the area in front of the Kindergarten playground on Castlefield and the School bus zone on St. Clements.

The reason for this is safety pure and simple. If cars are parked in front of the Kindergarten playground, cars driving on the street will not see a child who runs out into the street until its too late. Do you want to be the cause of a serious injury or death?

If you park in the School Bus Zone on St. Clements, the bus has to park on an angle. Twice emergency vehicles have not been able to travel down the street. This puts the lives of the residents and students at risk. your convenience is not worth the life of someone else.

A lot of energy was been put into obtaining legal parking spots in the 10 minute zones east of the school and just west of the school. Please use these spots and do not park in front of the Kindergarten zone or the school bus zone. The police will be out ticketing and tow trucks will be called. They will also ticket individuals who do illegal turns. We are all in a hurry, but turning around near the school is extremely dangerous and blocks traffic. We want to decrease congestion and have our parents drive in a more courteous manner.

In addition to the safety issues, it sets a bad example for our children. It is not OK to break the law or to be rude to others. Our children see everything that we do and we are the example that they will follow. If you need to drive, please travel westbound on Castlefield and eastbound on St. Clements. Do not drop your child off on the opposite side of the street. It is very dangerous for them to cross the street.

Kiss ‘N’ Ride is in operation everyday, rain or shine, on Castlefield from 8:45-9:00am. Do not park in the KNR zone during this time. Just drop your kids off and know that they are being safely delivered to the playground by a responsible volunteer.

Finally, please walk to school if you can. It is better for your health and the environment. Please pass this information on  to whomever it is that picks up your child – nanny/caregiver or grandparent. When you see people parking or driving unsafely please feel free to call parking enforcement. The number is 416-808-2222.
