Well, February has already been busy with our Winter Olympics morning trivia contest, a Walking Wednesday (and another scheduled for February 19th), a snow storm, Kindergarten registration, and our Kids Lit team placing 4th in the area competition. Things will become even more exciting next week with the Free the Children Club’s Random Acts of Kindness campaign and another Spirit Day on February 14th when everyone is asked to dress with a Valentine theme.
Points for participation are awarded by class for our new HOUSE SYSTEM. Classes are placed in one of our four houses which is based on the philosophy of the Aboriginal Healing Circle or Medicine Wheel (WHITE = Bison, YELLOW = Eagle, RED = Coyote, BLACK = Grizzly Bear). Later in the month, we also have community members coming to Allenby to speak about White Cane Week and how sighted citizens can appropriately assist people using a white cane. Did you know that there are different types of white canes which are used for different situations?
