Principal’s message

I have heard many teachers throughout the school in recent days state that they are teaching “pool”. This means that many parents continue to ask about teacher assignments. In some cases it is the same parent asking a variety of staff members. Please stop asking as you will not hear what you are searching for and will simply initiate an awkward conversation that ends in “pool”. Teaching assignments, as outlined, will be provided in the final report card. Thank you!

Thank you to those parents/guardians who provided input for class placements for 2016-2017. As stated in the letter, requests for specific teachers or classrooms will be disregarded. Placement in a low end of a combined grade classroom (i.e., a grade 4 student placed in a grade 4/5 classroom) will not provide any child with enrichment by virtue of being with older children. The expectation in ALL classrooms, combined or single grades, is that instruction is differentiated and that groupings will exist to promote guided/ small group instruction in order to meet the needs of all learners. Students in any classroom might function a grade or two above or below others academically, socially, emotionally, etc. In all cases, we will work towards building balanced classrooms based on a variety of information sources. Thank you once again for your input and continued partnership.

As I write about next year, I am reminded about our new junior kindergarten students who will be joining us in September. On June 6th, from 8:45 am to 10:00 am we will be hosting a Kindergarten Open House for junior kindergarten students and their parents. Invitations have been mailed out to these families. We look forward to meeting you on the 6th and sharing a glimpse of what next year has to offer at Allenby.

For all families, the 2016-2017 TDSB School Year Calendar has been approved. The 2016-2017 school year at the TDSB begins on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 following the Labour Day long weekend.
