Safety Alert

On Monday, we received information about an incident that reportedly happened this past weekend at a cafe in Forest Hill Village. A man approached a three-and-a-half year old girl and engaged her in conversation. He repeatedly asked if she would come away with him and if she would like to go on an airplane with him. The girl did not leave with him and returned to her parent. Police were contacted.

As we all take an active interest in neighbourhood safety, we encourage anyone who might have information about this weekend incident to contact police at 53 Division at 416-808-5302 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222 TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com. Police are looking for a man described as white, approximately 5″10, in his early 50’s, about 200 pounds, with short brown hair with bits of grey, brown eyes, and thick black lashes. At the time, he was wearing all navy blue (sweater, collar up, and pants), beige hat (dark tree-like symbol on the front and wording about a Golf Club), and reading glasses.
We are fortunate to have a number of safety initiatives, programs, and policies that contribute to a safe and caring school. However, most incidents happen away from school.  I want to emphasize again to all our students, staff, and parents the need to be aware and alert at all times, no matter where you are and even in the most ordinary and everyday routines.

Our staff  regularly speak to students about how to stay safe.  I know that you too will want to help ensure our community is as safe as possible. In an additional attachment, please find street proofing tips that you may find helpful when discussing safety with your child.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
